500w Power Supplies: Antec EarthWatts and Seasonic M12II

Antec EarthWatts 500w: Connectors

The EarthWatts has a total of 9 sets of wires coming from it, with a total of 16 connectors:

ATX main (20/24 pin) ATX 12v (4 pin)
EPS 12v (8 pin) 2x PCI-E (6 pin)
4x SATA Floppy Drive (4 pin)
6x Molex (4 pin)

It is approximately 19" from the beginning of each wire to the first connector. The ATX main cable is sheathed in a black mesh material.

There are two wires of Molex (4 pin) connectors, with 3 connectors per wire. On the end of one of these wires is the floppy drive power connector. There is 6' between each connector on the strand.

There are two wires of SATA power connectors, with 2 connectors per wire. There is 6" between each connector on the strand.

Seasonic M12II 500w: Connectors

The M12II has a total of 10 sets of wires coming from it (with all modular cables connected), with a total of 18 connectors (one Molex 4 pin connector is used for floppy drive power connector adapter):

ATX main (20/24 pin) ATX 12v (4 pin)
EPS 12v (8 pin) 2x PCI-E (6 pin + 6/8 pin)
6x SATA 2x Floppy Drive (4 pin)
8x Molex (4 pin)

It is approximately 21" from the beginning of each wire to the first connector. All of the cables are sheathed in a black mesh material.

There are three wires of Molex (4 pin) connectors, two with 3 connectors per wire, and one with 2 connectors. There are two wires of SATA power connectors, with 3 connectors per wire. There is 6' between each connector on the strand.

The Molex (4 pin) connectors are a little fancier than the standard connectors. They are 'easy swap' connectors. Basically, all you do is press together the flaps on either side of the connectors, and it makes removing them from tight plugs easier.

Those who still have a floppy drive (or other peripheral that uses the same connector), two connectors come in the form of a Y-adapter. Using the adapter takes up one of the Molex 4 pin connections.

This M12-II is enough for

This M12-II is enough for powering any reasonably configured computer. I got a C2Q Q9550, 4GB RAM, GeForce GTS 250 and two harddrives. This PSU handles it with utter ease. Measured pull from the wall socket is about 250W under normal use. With about 85% efficiency, that's 215+ watts from the PSU DC side. And people get 1000W PSUs when they don't need one.

Well my cpu is now 650watt

Well my cpu is now 650watt so 500 isn't much anymore :)

I own one of the 380 watt

I own one of the 380 watt version and i'm glad i purchased that, really good products from Antec
